Over 500 fishermen killed by Saudi-led attacks in past four years
SANA’A – The Minister of Fishery, Mohammed al-Zubairi, has said on Tuesday that the Saudi-led coalition has killed and injured over 500 Yemeni fishermen in the Yemeni coastline over the past four years.
Al-Zubairi in a statement added that more than 4,000 fishing boats have stopped operating, including 250 boats that were destroyed by the coalition air strikes.
The Minister affirmed that the coalition attacks on fishing boats in the western coast have caused thousands of the Yemeni fishermen to lose their livelihoods, thus worsening the poverty and famine in Yemen.
Losses of the fishing industry over the past four years were estimated at over six billion dollars, the minister concluded.
The Saudi-led invaders target fishermen as a means to exacerbate food shortages and poverty, by means of illegal economic warfare against Yemeni civilians.
