Sayyid Abdul-Malik al-Houthi condemns Saudi sabotage of Geneva peace process

SANA’A – Sayyid Abdul-Malik Badreddin al-Houthi, the Leader of the Yemeni Revolution, has spoken to the Yemeni nation on Saturday, addressing specifically the criminal attempts by the Saudi regime to obstruct the Yemeni delegation from arriving in Geneva, where a UN-mediated peace process was supposed to take place in order to try and achieve an end to the Saudi invasion war.

Sayyid al-Houthi pointed out that the Geneva peace talks had failed because the delegation representing the National Salvation Government of Yemen were unable to get to the area in time, because of constant Saudi attempts to obstruct and even threaten the lives of the diplomats.

The leader of Ansarullah furthermore noted that the Yemeni delegates had only asked for guarantees of safe passage from Yemen to Switzerland and back, but that these guarantees were never given. The UN special representative to the United Nations, Martin Griffiths, has confirmed that the safety guarantees were indeed insufficient.

During a previous peace negotiation in Geneva, the Yemeni diplomats were forced to make a landing in the East African country of Djibouti, where the diplomats were held in effective captivity by Saudi forces for several months before being released only as part of a prisoner swap in which the National Salvation Government of Yemen had to release numerous US spies in return for its diplomats. Targeting and threatening diplomatic personnel is a flagrant violation of international law.

In response to this act of aggression, Ansarullah this time demanded a UN guarantee that the Yemeni delegation, flying on an Omani aeroplane, would be allowed to fly straight to Geneva without forced stops, and would not be subjected to Saudi “inspections” of the aircraft.

The Saudi kingdom however, reportedly refused any authorization for their arrival, which apparently led to the United Nations as a whole failing to give any guarantee for the safe arrival and return of Yemen’s diplomats.

According to Sayyid al-Houthi, the fact that Saudi Arabia and their US allies so blatantly sabotaged a UN-brokered peace process, shows that the invadion coalition has absolutely no interest in achieving a negotiated peace settlement. This was further shown by the complete disregard for facts shown by Saudi coalition diplomats and representatives of the Hadi puppet regime, whom insulted UN special envoy Martin Griffiths and falsely blamed Ansarullah for the failure of the Geneva process.

Representatives from Ansarullah and the National Salvation Government, however, remain positive on the work of UN envoy Martin Griffiths and the future peace process. The Yemeni delegation stated that “The environment for discussions is fairly positive, despite what’s happening on the ground and despite the fact that we did not of course get the opportunity to receive (…) We will be going to Muscat and Sana’a to take up the issues that we will have discussed here.”

Mohammed Ali al-Houthi, head of the Supreme Revolutionary Committee of Yemen, has also expressed his full confidance in Martin Griffiths and his support for his unceasing devotion to achieving peace, despite constant sabotage attempts by the US and Saudi Arabia.
