SANA’A – Empowering women is a major goal of the September 21 Revolution of 2014, which has from its very start involved the female population of the Yemeni Republic in the public and political life.
Ever since the Supreme Political Council took over rule of Yemen, the government has stepped up attempts to increase the role of women in the rule and defence of the nation. One of the main agencies that has involved itself with this goal is the Women’s National Trades and Crafts Centre. Najal al-Jawzi, Director of the centre, spoke to reporters of Yemen Press Agency.
“Despite the Saudi-led aggression, blockade, and the lack of the support that we were receiving from many organizations, we overcame many problems and difficulties that we faced in the center.”, al-Jawzi stated, adding that “We have transformed the centre into a front for our eagerness to embody the role and the merit of Yemeni women in the face of difficulties.”
The Director furthermore noted that the Centre aims to revive the age-old heritage of the public role of Yemen’s women, and is currently training and educating at least 800 women in all sorts of fields.
