“The Yemeni parties were about to sign a political agreement. This was foiled by the Saudi-led coalition war,” he said.
While the September 21 Revolution in 2014 did indeed overthrow the government of Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi, and established the Supreme Revolutionary Committee as a leading organisation in the new Yemeni government, several sources indicate that there was an extensive campaign of negotiation and rapprochement between various political organisation ongoing by the time the Saudi-led coalition invaded.
“The United States of America and Saudi Arabia are destroying Yemen, which is a democratic country, besieging the democratic Republic of Yemen and committing crimes against the democratic country. Yemen wants a democratic country under its own guardianship,” he added.
Mohammed Ali al-Houthi furthermore affirmed Yemen’s commitment to its independence, sovereignty and democratic future.
“The approach of the Republic of Yemen, with its broad approval, its national vision and the movement of its project, will remain a place of dignity, an abode of Freedom, and the project of our desired future,” he concluded.
